Alongside the manual

Built to complement the book

The printed manual is where you learn a system properly. The app takes that understanding to site.

It supports learning when you’ve got time and structured diagnosis when you haven’t, with reference material that links back to the matching part of the manual.

About the manual

Planned capabilities

What the app is being built to do

Features may change before release.

  • Guided Fault Atlas

Pick the system, then the symptom, and follow a structured pathway through the checks in a sensible order.

  • Heating system reference

Reference sections for the systems UK engineers meet most: S-Plan, Y-Plan and S-Plan Plus.

  • Searchable wiring information

Find the wiring information you need quickly. Approved diagrams are shown exactly as approved.

  • Testing and diagnosis explained

Structured explanations of each test: what to measure, where, and what the reading means.

  • Components, controls and circuits

Educational content on what each control does and how the circuit around it operates.

  • Quick reference

The key information you reach for on site, a couple of taps away.

The Fault Atlas

A pathway, not a guess

The Fault Atlas is planned to work from the symptom back to the cause, one logical check at a time.

  1. 1

    Choose the system

    S-Plan, Y-Plan, S-Plan Plus or another arrangement.

  2. 2

    Choose the symptom

What the customer reported, or what you can see.

  3. 3

    Follow the checks

Each step explains what to test, how, and what you should find.

  4. 4

    Reach a conclusion

The pathway ends at a likely cause, or tells you where to look next.

About screenshots

We’ll only show real screens taken from a tested build. Until then, everything on this page describes what’s planned, not a finished app.

Subscriptions and licensing

Individual subscriptions and organisational licensing are planned. No prices have been confirmed, so none are shown.

Heating Decoded is for competent professionals. It doesn't replace manufacturer instructions, BS 7671, the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations, safe working procedures or your own professional judgement. Isolate and prove dead before you work on any circuit, and follow the instructions for the specific product in front of you.

FAQ

Questions people ask

When will the app be available?

There’s no release date yet. It’s being prepared for the Apple App Store and Google Play, and store links will be added here when the listings exist.

How much will it cost?

Individual subscriptions and organisational licensing are planned. Pricing hasn’t been confirmed, and we won’t take payment until it has.

Does it replace the manual?

No. The app is designed to complement the printed manual: the book for learning the system properly, the app for structured diagnosis and quick reference on site.

Does it replace training or manufacturer instructions?

No. It’s a learning and reference tool for people already competent to do the work. Manufacturer instructions, the regulations and safe working practice always come first.

Is Part Finder part of this app?

No. Part Finder is a separate app in the Heating Decoded family, with its own arrangements.
